Student Guidelines for Using Sports Facilities and Equipment
The student benefits apply to students of the Sport Institute of Finland and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences' Vierumäki campus for the duration of their study rights.
For part-time students, the benefits are valid on on-campus study days.
1. General Instructions
Students must present their student card/ID when entering a sports facility or picking up equipment.
For any recreational use of facilities, students must check in at either the Sports Hall or the Tennis and Padel Hall desk.
Always inform the desk that you are a student and specify the facility you will be using.
Students must yield to paying customers if they arrive to use the same space.
Free use is limited to half an hour at a time to ensure that others entitled to free use (students and staff) also have an equal opportunity to use the facilities. If there are no other users waiting, the facilities may be used for a longer period.
Sports facilities should always be left in a clean condition when leaving.
2. Use of Sports Facilities and Equipment During Free Time
Free of Charge Use
The use of the sports facilities listed below is free of charge for students during opening hours if there are no bookings. Always check the booking status of the facility at the customer service desk.
Sports Hall facilities, including gyms

Note: The Voltti Arena gymnastics area and archery are not available for independent student use during free time.
The Arena will not be opened solely for students if it is otherwise closed.

Ski trails
When ski fees apply, a ski pass must be collected from the customer service desk.

Reservations can be made at the Sports Hall or Tennis and Padel Hall desk.
Golf is chargeable: read more: vierumakigolf.fi
In Flowpark, students can climb with a student ticket according to the price list: flowpark.fi/en/vierumaki/
The air hockey and billiards on the second floor of the tennis and padel hall are subject to regular charges. Darts can be played free of charge if students use their own darts. Please always give way to paying customers.
BOOKING FACILITIES FOR FREE AND PAID USE
New instructions effective from October 8, 2025!
Please note that all facilities must always be booked in the reservation system before use so that utilization rates can be monitored. In addition, the booking ensures, for example, that the lights on the tennis and padel courts turn on.
You can make a booking at the customer service points of the Sports Hall, the reception, or Café Kierre (i.e. the Tennis and Padel Hall). The booking must always be made under the name of the person using the facility.
For so-called walk-in sessions - that is, the free use of facilities by students and staff - the court or space can be booked at most 30 minutes before the start time, provided that there are no existing bookings. A booking can also be made after the session has started (for example, at 14:05 you can book a slot from 14:00 to 15:00). A free-use booking can be made for a maximum duration of one hour at a time.
If you book the court more than 30 minutes in advance, the reserved session will be charged at -25% off the list price.
3. Borrowing and Renting Sports Equipment During Free Time
Free Borrowing
Borrowing the following equipment is free of charge for students:
All sports equipment available in general storage (balls, rackets, cones, vests, frisbees, foam rollers, etc.)
Free use does not apply to equipment stored in the instructors' storage. The equipment in the instructors’ storage is intended primarily for the use of instructors.
Ask about equipment at the hall's information desk or from the sports facility staff.
Walking poles
Track and field equipment
Equipment from the sled storage
Borrowed equipment must be signed out in a notebook at the Sports Hall desk with your name. When borrowing keys, your name and phone number must be recorded in the sign-out notebook.
Please note that equipment must not be taken outside the halls, such as to rooms. Equipment should be used in the building or space where it is located (except for outdoor sports equipment).
When returning the equipment, please ensure it is clean and in good condition (e.g., outdoor balls, frisbees, etc.).
Paid Rental Renting the following sports equipment is chargeable for students:
Aino, Oiva, and Jopo bikes from the Nature Sports Center, 50% off the regular price
Mountain bikes, eFatbikes from the Nature Sports Center, no discounts
For equipment rented from the Spotif store, such as skis, golf, tennis, squash, and padel rackets, students receive a discount offered by the store.
For more information, ask at the Tennis and Padel Hall store.
4. Guided Sports Sessions Related to Studies
Facility Reservations
Reservations related to the studies of the Sport Institute of Finland are made through their teachers. Therefore, inform the responsible teacher about any facility needs related to your studies.
Reservations related to Haaga-Helia studies, internships, etc., are made at the Sports Hall desk or or via email: urheiluhalli@vierumaki.fi (reservations require the number of people, the form of sport, and the responsible teacher).
Note: The Voltti Arena gymnastics area is a special environment that requires proper training for safe and appropriate use. The Sports Hall does not provide keys to individual students; access is only allowed under teacher supervision. Exceptions can be discussed directly between the teacher and the hall staff.
Sports Equipment
For sports instruction or coahing practise on the Vierumäki campus, equipment can be borrowed from the Sports Hall.
For off-campus exercises, the equipment of the respective locations should primarily be used.
Reservations of equipment for students of the Sport Institute of Finland are made by the teacher.
Haaga-Helia equipment reservations are made at the Sports Hall desk.
When organizing events, the responsible persons should contact the Sports Hall information desk or Heidi Hyttinen in advance: heidi.hyttinen@vierumaki.fi, tel. +358 50 371 7422.
General guidelines for using equipment
Archery equipment must not be used without the supervision or consultation of a teacher or sports instructor. There are safety risks associated with the sport that must be understood before using the equipment, and the instructor will be familiarized with the sport before the instruction session.
Sports equipment is shared between sports instruction and teaching. Keep in mind that they are the most important tools for sports instructors.
Always return equipment to the place where you took it from, so it is easy to find for the next user.
Sometimes equipment gets broken, and that's normal. Remember to inform the Sports Hall staff or sports instructors about broken equipment so it can be repaired or replaced if necessary.
All equipment related to sports instruction or coahing practise must be booked through the reservation system, just like the sports facilities. Do not take anything from storage that you have not reserved.
Sports equipment is located in various storage rooms in the Sports Hall. Ask about the location of the equipment at the Sports Hall information desk.
The contact person for sports instructors is Heidi Hyttinen. Contact her if you need more information or clarifications about the equipment: heidi.hyttinen@vierumaki.fi, tel. +358 50 371 7422.
5. Use of the Test Station
The testing station manages the light rabbit and light beams on the indoor running track in the Sports Hall. The equipment is usually locked.
Students are allowed to use the light rabbit and light beam equipment if they are available and the student knows how to use them (training is provided by the test station). The key can be collected from the Sports Hall desk. NOTE! The device will be replaced in September, which may affect the operating instructions.
If the use of test equipment is part of your studies, the teacher is responsible for booking and overseeing the equipment.
Please, contact us, if you notice any issues with the equipment or want training on how to use it: emmi.sulonen@vierumaki.fi, tel.+358 45 788 52727
Student discount on the fitness tests is -15%.
