This page provides answers to frequently asked questions about sports and fitness testing.

If you cannot find an answer to your question, please contact pekka.pulkkinen@vierumaki.fi

1\. What equipment should I bring?

  • Indoor exercise equipment, indoor exercise shoes / sneakers for running tests

  • For cycling tests, we recommend a cotton shirt to ensure the correct operation of electrodes (tech shirts may cause interference with the electrodes)

2\. Do you have clip-in pedals?

  • Yes. Either Shimano SPD pedals in eight bikes and Shimano SPD-SL pedals in one bike. Alternatively, you can also bring your own pedals.

3\. Which test should I choose: light-guided Conconi test or level test?

  • If you are a novice runner or train without heart rate / pace zones, the light-guided Conconi test is a good choice. If you are interested in detailed information about heart rate and pace zones for training, the level test is the right choice.

4\. Do you have a test for maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max)?

  • We do not have a test in which oxygen uptake is measured by a direct method, i.e. a mask on the face. However, our tests provide you with a calculated maximum oxygen uptake based on maximum test speed or power.

5\. I have disease x, can I participate the test?

  • Certain diseases may prevent the test, depending on the test. Maximum tests have stricter criteria and, for example, mobility tests can be done very well in many cases. If you suspect that your illness may affect your main test, you should always contact the Test Station in advance and make sure. Among other things, coronary artery disease and pulmonary embolism mainly prevent access to the endurance test.

6\. Can a minor participate the test?

  • We also conduct tests for minors with the consent of the guardian. In InBody measurement, the age limit is 18 years.

7\. Do I have to warm up before the test?

  • A short warm-up (approx. 5 min) is possible at the beginning of the test time. If you want to warm up longer, you should warm up in advance.

8\. Where are the tests performed?

  • The test facilities are located in the Sports Hall. The Test Station is located on the 2nd floor. Running tests are done on an indoor running track.

9\. What is the duration of the lactate test?

  • You should reserve 1.5 hours for the lactate test. The level test itself takes about 40 minutes and the threshold test about 20-30 minutes.
